Antagonistic Potential of Lactobacillus Spp against Enteropathogenic Bacteria; Purification and Characterization of their Bacteriocins
نویسنده
چکیده
In the present study, Lactobacillus (160) isolates were isolated from curd sample. The isolates were aimed to analyze the antibacterial potential against Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae sub sp., ogawa, V. cholerae sub sp., inaba, Klebsiella sp., Proteus sp. and Shigella dysenteriae. All the isolates were inhibiting the tested Enteropathogenic bacteria except S. dysenteriae. Lactobacillus isolates produced highest inhibition zone (30 to 37 mm) against V. cholerae sub sp., inaba and Klebsiella sp., of the 160 isolates only ten Lactobacillus isolates (L1L10) were used for the production of bacteriocins, purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation and ion exchange (DEAE cellulose) chromatography. Maximum bacteriocin activity has been observed with Lf3 against V. cholerae ssp Inaba at 30°C, pH 6.0, 1.5 to 2.0% Na Cl/18 h in addition to L8, L9 and L10 (MW 100 to 106 KDa) and Lf3 was found to be the most prominent potential isolate.

Antagonistic Activity of Bacteriocin- Producing Lactobacillus local isolates against some pathogenic bacterial species
Background and Objective: Lactobacilli are known for their probiotic activities and potential to combat pathogens. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial activity of Lactobacillus strains isolated from various sources against pathogenic bacteria, with the objective of identifying potential bacteriocin producers. Methods: A total of 140 samples were collected from different sources. ...

Lactobacilli were isolated from chicken gastrointestinal tract and examined for their potentially probiotic properties towards their inhibitory activity against poultry enteropathogenic bacteria. Biochemical tests, ITS-PCR and cell wall protein analysis were used to characterize the Lactobacillus isolates. The identification of isolated Lactobacillus strains based on phenotypic properties was n...

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are gram positive and non- spore forming bacteria that can produce some special substances for growth inhibition of pathogenic, non-pathogenic and food spoilage bacteria. The aim of this study was to determine the inhibitory effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus PTCC1643 (DSM 20079) and Lactobacillus plantarum PTCC 1058 (ATCC 8014) cultural supernatants against urinary...

ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Lactic acid bacteria are Gram-positive, catalase-negative, nonsporulating, either rod- or coccus-shaped bacteria that have beneficial effects on their hosts by producing antimicrobial substances such as lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, bacteriocins and biosurfactants. Bacteriocins are antimicrobial peptides that a...

Background and Objectives: Lactobacillus spp. are widely distributed in environment as well as dairy products. During the fermentation process, these microorganisms produce various compounds such as organic acids and bacteriocins with antimicrobial activities. The aims of this study were to isolate and identify lactobacilli from local yogurts of Behbahan, Iran, and assessment of antimicrobial a...
